listening sessions in east village, NYC

How It All Started
Our Sunday afternoon listening sessions started in Fall 2001. While being at the residency program of Music Omi in Summer 2001, we did a few group listening sessions to get to know each other's work. Back in NYC, some of us wanted to continue with the listening sessions. It was then when I decided to host them in my East Village studio. We just reached our 30th listening session!

What Is It?
The listening sessions are a space to (obviously) listen, discuss, and get to know other people's work. Since 2001, we have had a total of 32 "listeners", although we usually never had more than 6 people at any single time. We are always looking for new "listeners" for our groups. If you'd like us to consider you for a future series of listening sessions, you can e-mail me at laura(at) for more information on how to apply.

• Read an excerpt about the listening sessions that happened at home in "Total Risk, Freedom, Discipline", an essay by Ursel Schlicht published at Arcana IV Musicians on Music, a book edited by John Zorn in September 2009.
