Laura Andel has composed and conducted for many years music for jazz big band and large jazz orchestra. Andel has premiered a number of award-winning large ensemble compositions in which traditional jazz big band instrumentation meets wild yet delicate soundscapes.
El Pire, a composition for jazz big band, won the first BMI Foundation/Jerry Harrington Jazz Composers Award, and Sao Dao, a composition for her 20-piece jazz orchestra was selected as the featured soundtrack for the Massachusetts Cultural Council‘s 40 Years of Fellowships celebration.
